Primer 180 : SHOT Show Preflight

Primer 180 : SHOT Show Preflight

A week on the road means that there’s always a few loose ends to tie up back home and at the office. We asked the Vegas-bound team a few questions before launch.

Sarah Donnell

Primer180_SHOTShow_SarahSarah Donnell
President : Primer 180

# of SHOT Shows: Sarah has seen a lot of innovation throughout the 16 SHOT Shows she’s attended, and she’s looking forward to seeing even more in 2016!

What is one thing you need to do before you leave for the show?
“All I need to really do is my laundry at home and ride my horse.”

Well with that being said, we’re guessing Sarah is already well prepared when it comes to business at SHOT. Now it’s time to wash those clothes and look good for the show!

What are you most excited for about this trip to SHOT Show?

“I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with the people I only generally get to see once a year. I usually only get to build those relationships while I’m at SHOT Show.”

SHOT Show isn’t just for business opportunities and partnerships, it’s also about making friendships and having a good time. Being in a massive room with thousands of people who have similar values is a great opportunity to make lifelong friends.

Bill Miller

Primer180_SHOTShow_BillBill Miller
Executive Editor : Primer 180

# of SHOT Shows: We’re pretty sure Bill deserves an award for this one. He has attended SHOT Show a whopping 31 times, IN A ROW! If you need advice about how to work the show floor, Bill is the man to see.

What is one thing you need to do before you leave for the show?
“I need to get over this dang cold I’ve been fighting for a couple weeks.”
But Bill shouldn’t worry, with lots of Vitamin C, Zinc, and rest, nothing will keep a SHOT Show veteran like him from getting to Vegas! Bill’s other goal is to keep from getting any sicker once he gets to the show. Luckily he, and you, can reference his 10 Sure Steps to Avoid “SHOT Show Crud.” Trust us, with more than 60,000 industry professionals running around, you’re bound to catch something.

What are you most excited for about this trip to SHOT Show?

“I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with people I’ve met over the years and furthering those relationships. It’s great to meet so many people in the industry, but it’s sometimes tough to stay in touch, and SHOT Show brings us all back together.”

It’s guaranteed that Bill won’t be able to walk down a single aisle at SHOT Show without seeing at least one person he already knows. With his friendly personality it’s also guaranteed he’ll make many new connections as well. When he’s not on the show floor, check the pressroom to find Bill. That’s where he finds what he calls, “my kind of people!”

Howard Tripp

Primer180_SHOTShow_HowardHoward Tripp
Founder & Chief Innovation Officer : Revo Brand Group

# of SHOT Shows: Howard is indeed a SHOT Show veteran, having attended SHOT Show at least 20 times.

What is one thing you need to do before you leave for the show?

“First and foremost I need to help my son finish packing for his big trip to Papua New Guinea. After that I also need to go gun shopping with my wife. She just got her permit to carry and now it’s time to find the right gun for her.”

On top of his duties as a father and husband, Howard is getting over being sick. Of all the times to be sick, SHOT Show is not one of them, especially not for an industry leader like Howard who needs to be on top of his game.

What are you most excited for about this trip to SHOT Show?
“I’m definitely most excited about reconnecting with old friends, especially friends I might only get to see once a year at the show. I’m also really eager to show off Real Avid’s new products.”

Howard thrives off of the energy and sense of brotherhood that comes along with attending SHOT Show. The amount of camaraderie that can be found at SHOT can be found nowhere else, and Howard is ready to have that feeling back and witness the industry’s most innovative new products with some of the best people around.

Nick Grzechowiak

Primer180_SHOTShow_NickNick Grzechowiak
VP of Digital Strategy & Development : Revo Brand Group

# of SHOT Shows: This will be Nick’s 5th SHOT Show and he’s as ready as ever to get out there again.

What is one thing you need to do before you leave for the show?
“I definitely need to go out and buy some new khaki pants. They’re a SHOT Show must. I also need to start my dune buggy and make sure it won’t freeze while I’m gone.”

First impressions are important, especially at SHOT Show. You need to worry about firm hand shakes, good eye contact, stylish shoes (who needs comfort on a nearly 13 mile journey through a tradeshow) and what the heck, we’ll throw khaki pants in there too. You never know when you might need them. If Nick’s dune buggy does freeze when he’s gone, it would still be worth it.

What are you most excited for about this trip to SHOT Show?

“I love going to SHOT Show because being in a room with people who work in the same industry but do so many different jobs is really exciting. We all have a variety of skills we apply to our work but yet we’re all working towards the same goal, and that’s awesome to be part of.”

You won’t find someone that’s been to SHOT Show that didn’t experience that unique feeling of brotherhood. It’s good to see firsthand how all companies and brands work together to make the industry stronger.

Roy Wetterstrom

Primer180_SHOTShow_RoyRoy Wetterstrom
Founder & CEO : Revo Brand Group

# of SHOT Shows: Roy has been to 6 or 7 SHOT Shows prior to this year. It’s easy to loose count when you’re having so much fun!

What is one thing you need to do before you leave for the show?

“I plan to try on a bunch of different clothes to find out which of my coolest outfits I should bring to the show. Everyone at Primer180 knows I’m the most fashion forward person in the office.”

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, first impressions are important! Look for Roy at SHOT Show to see his style firsthand. On a more serious note, Roy will be preparing by making sure he is clear on everything he needs to accomplish while at the show.

What are you most excited for about this trip to SHOT Show?

“Definitely reconnecting with a whole bunch of people who I haven’t seen in a while. SHOT Show is great for building current relationships and making new ones.”

The 2015 SHOT Show boasted nearly 64,000 buyers and sellers from across the United States and more than 100 countries. It’s impossible to walk through the showroom doors and not instantly want to start networking. Sadly, over the course of the week it would be nearly impossible to meet everyone, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try!

Jesse Simon

Primer180_SHOTShow_JesseJesse Simon
Account Director : Primer 180

# of SHOT Shows: The 2016 SHOT Show will be round 2 for Jesse, and he’s ready to roll!

What is one thing you need to do before you leave for the show?

“I need to pick up a portable charger for all of my gadgets. Because this event isn’t open to the public it’s great to take back pieces of it to share with others through photos and videos, although I’ve learned it’s never the same as actually being there.”

Looking back at photos is great, but it’s hard to relive the buzz you feel in a room with so many likeminded industry professionals who are working towards the same goal. In order to stay on his game and be able to meet more people and see more booths this year, Jesse also needs to pick up some shoe inserts. Stay on your toes Jesse!

What are you most excited for about this trip to SHOT Show?

“I’m excited to see more and do more this year. Last year was my first year there and no doubt it’s a little overwhelming walking through the SHOT Show doors, but now I’ll already have an idea of what to expect.”

Making connections and building relationships is what SHOT is all about. Once you get past your first trip out there and start learning the ropes, it becomes easier to buckle down and get to work!

Jana Rewey

Primer180_SHOTShow_JanaJana Rewey
Account Director : Primer 180

# of SHOT Shows: Jana is a SHOT Show rookie, making her big debut this year.

What is one thing you need to do before you leave for the show?

“I need to buy comfortable shoes because there’s a lot I want to see at SHOT, and we all know it’s nearly 13 miles of the industry’s greatest, latest, and most innovative products. I’ll have plenty of ground to cover.”

Jana has a few companies on her meeting list while at SHOT and plans to continue researching those brands and companies to increase her understanding of the industry. She’s determined to be well versed and prepared, or as prepared as a person can be for their first trip to SHOT Show.

What are you most excited for about this trip to SHOT Show?

“I’m excited to be walking the floor with so many SHOT Show and industry veterans including Bill and Howard.”

Learning the SHOT Show ropes from two of the industry’s best powerhouses is important to Jana. She’s grateful for that opportunity and intends to soak in as much knowledge from them as she can because she’s so passionate about the work our industry accomplishes.

Matthew Bray

Primer180_SHOTShow_MattMatthew Bray
Digital Marketing Associate : Primer 180

# of SHOT Shows: Well folks, we have another newbie coming to the show this year. Get the initiation ritual ready!

What is one thing you need to do before you leave for the show?
“I need to map out the booth layouts and plan my time appropriately for each day.”

It’s important to plan out your time at the show so you can get the most out of what seems like only a couple of days. Time flies when you’re having fun right? However, almost no amount of planning and studying can truly prepare a person for their first SHOT Show. Good luck Matt!

What are you most excited for about this trip to SHOT Show?

“I’ve been to the ATA show before, but never SHOT. I’m excited to see another side of the industry that covers a wider range of products and companies than most other trade shows.”

It’s impossible to attend SHOT Show and not learn something new, whether that be about a brand, product, or the industry as a whole. This show covers everything you can imagine and more.

Steve Pennaz

Primer180_SHOTShow_SteveSteve Pennaz
Founder & Partner : EverFire Group

# of SHOT Shows: Steve’s tackled more than 20 SHOT Shows. His first time attending the show was in 1987, and it’s been great for him to watch the expansion over the years.

What is one thing you need to do before you leave for the show?
“I’m not leaving for the show until I catch a 10 pound walleye…or two…”

That’s sounds like our Steve for sure! Fishing will basically fill up his time up until the show opens up.

What are you most excited for about this trip to SHOT Show?

“It’s exciting for me to see one of Everfire’s television shows nominated in three award categories in the 16th Annual Outdoor Sportsman Awards Program. I also have some great client meetings lined up that I’m really looking forward to.”

The Outdoor Sportsman Awards will be honoring the network’s notable talent and production teams, and Steve and his team are honored to be a part of that.
